Stephen spent 20 years inside investment banks in Asia and the US. He ran the Asia Pacific Equity activities of Salomon/Citigroup from 1999 to 2001, after stints at Morgan Stanley, UBS and Deutsche Bank. From 2005 through 2007 he built Merriman Curhan Ford’s asset management division as the group’s Chief Operating Officer. Stephen graduated from Wesleyan University with a BA in History and attended the Falcon Program for Japanese Studies at Cornell University. He is an enthusiastic reader, skier, biker, coach, carpenter, dad, student and mentor.
Keith Powell, Partner - Consumer and Industrials Keith has held a variety of roles in finance and operations for operating companies for the last 20 years. Keith has managed global finance organizations, processes, and projects for over 10 years and has served with the senior executive team on strategy development and execution, governance & process deployment, executive compensation, communications, and people development. Keith was most recently the CFO of the Technology Solutions Group at Nortek, as well as the CFO/COO of Kodak Gallery (oFoto) for Eastman Kodak. Keith graduated from Virginia Tech and has an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Scott Lin, CFA, CPA, Partner Scott is an experienced finance professional, spending over 15 years in the US and Hong Kong with JP Morgan, Swiss Re and Daiwa Capital Markets. He covered key Asian markets such as China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, focused on financial and technology industries. Scott advised clients on M&A and capital market transactions, as well as invested in illiquid and liquid markets acting on behalf of clients and as principle. Prior to going to Hong Kong, he was an accountant and consultant at PwC Los Angeles. Scott has an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and a MBA from USC Marshall School of Business. He is a fluent Mandarin speaker.
Sheryl WuDunn, Venture Partner - New York Sheryl has served in a variety of roles marketing, strategic planning and banking, raising capital in new media, media technology and healthcare. Previously, Sheryl has worked as investment advisor at Goldman, Sachs & Co. and at The New York Times. Her work for the Times was both as an executive and journalist: and in management roles in the Strategic Planning and Circulation Sales departments. As the first Asian-American reporter to win a Pulitzer Prize, Sheryl was selected as one of 60 notable members of the League of Extraordinary Women by Fast Company magazine. In August 2015, Business Insider named her one of the 31 most prominent graduates of the Harvard Business School.
Roger Marshall, Venture Partner - North Asia Since 1975, Roger has been actively involved in business consulting and retained executive search consulting in Japan, Korea and APAC, and helping Japanese and Asian multinational firms to build successful organizations. Since 1990, Roger has been a Partner & Managing Director Global Business Development at Odgers Berndtson Japan, a London-based top-tier global consultancy. Prior to that, Roger was a director at KPMG Consulting, building and leading one of the firm's practices in Japan and Korea. Roger is fluent in Japanese, with a B.A. degree in Asian Studies from Sophia University. He also studied Biotechnology at Penn State University, College of Science.
Allan Young, Venture Partner - Technology Allan is the Founder of Runway, the largest technology incubator in San Francisco, and TopLine, a business accelerator in Richmond. Prior to Runway and TopLine, Allan built LaunchHear, a Y Combinator-backed press relations software venture. He has also worked as an associate at Sorenson Capital, a $1BN mid-market private equity fund, where he sourced and completed transactions in the industrial sector. Allan founded MediaForum, an advertising software venture acquired by Rakuten. While still at University Allan founded the University Venture Fund, a student-run venture fund with $20MM invested. University fund invested in 15 technology companies resulting in four IPOs. Allan is a native of the Bay Area.
Malik Franklin, Venture Partner - Real Estate Malik serves as PPGV’s Real Estate Venture Partner and is a Partner at his own firm, Northbridge Investments, LLC. Malik previously worked as CFO of First Capital REIT and as a Director and VP in the Real Estate Investment Banking Groups of RBC Capital Markets and Banc of America Securities, respectively. Prior to BofA, Malik worked as a banker covering the technology sector at Soundview/Wit Capital and the healthcare sector at Smith Barney. Over his career, Malik has executed over 50 corporate and asset-level capital and advisory transactions valued at more the $15 billion. He completed his undergraduate work at Dartmouth College with degrees in Computer Science and Economics, and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business.
David D. Kiash, General Counsel David has served in a variety of global roles in commercial and regulatory law, corporate tax, public accounting, operations and e-commerce and has significant large-scale commercial negotiation, supply chain, and lean manufacturing-Toyota Operating System [TOS] experience. David’s career experiences include starting his own law firm and consumer e-commerce business, as well as serving in roles at Price Waterhouse/Coopers, Eastman Kodak and Nortek. David graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and holds a Juris Doctor from Western New England College-School of Law. He has passed the bar exams and is admitted in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts as well as having successfully completed the Certified Public Accounting examination in Massachusetts.
Stephen Cohen, Venture Partner - London Stephen began his career at SGWarburg/Mercury Asset Management in 1980. He spent 3 years in the USA and 7 years in Japan, starting and running two asset management businesses in Tokyo. He managed Japanese and global equity portfolios for over 10 years. He also worked extensively in Asia and Europe to build Mercury’s global business. Subsequently he worked at Zurich Scudder and Putnam heading up regional businesses, then set up a Russian hedge fund business for Troika Dialog. His last executive role was CEO of GO Investment Partners which managed European and Japanese equity activist funds. Today he is an NED at the UK Gambling Commission, the UK Health and Care Professions Council, JPMorgan Japan Investment Trust plc, and EG Capital Advisors. Stephen lives in London, has an MA in Physiology from University College, Oxford and is A Fellow of the UK CISI.
Kevin Layton, Venture Partner – Aerospace and Defense Kevin serves as PPGV’s Aerospace and Defense Venture Partner and heads PPGV's Denver office. Kevin served as CEO of Data-Dynamix, a digital marketing agency for 5 years. Prior to Data-Dynamix Kevin held C level positions in SRA International (now GDIT) and Decision Sciences International (DSIC). Kevin led the Air Traffic Systems business for SRA International, was technical director of Australia’s Jindalee OTH Radar program for Lockheed Martin, was technical director of the European COBRA Radar system, and was Deputy Program Manager for Lockheed Martin’s Transformational Satellite Mission Operations (TMOS) System. Kevin received a BS in Computer Science from Penn State and an Executive MBA from the Melbourne University School of Business. Kevin has traveled the world, done business in over 37 countries, and has lived in Germany, Australia and the Czech Republic.
John Bourne, Venture Partner – Cleantech and Social Impact John serves as PPGV’s Cleantech and Social Impact Venture Partner. John was the founder and CEO of BrightCurrent, a VC-backed retail clean energy marketing services provider, which was acquired in 2017 by Horizon Solar Power, the nation’s 4th largest residential solar installer. Prior to launching BrightCurrent, John led business development efforts for SunEdison’s residential solar unit. John volunteers on behalf of BUILD, a youth business incubator, and serves as a Board Member at the Munzer Foundation where he leads the foundation’s impact investment program. John studied History and Entrepreneurship at Brown University and his MBA at UC Berkeley Haas.
David Cooper, Venture Partner - Consumer & Retail David is an experienced CFO who is skilled at leading companies through significant change while maximizing value. He has taken six companies public, and completed $24B of M&A/debt/equity transactions for technology and food companies, including Agilent, Art.com, AvantGo, QRS, Satmetrix, Premier Nutrition, PowerBar, Edison Brothers Stores, and Dole Food Company. Most recently David was CFO of Tile, the IOT company that helps you keep track of your keys, wallet, and other important items. David studied Economics at Yale and earned a MBA with honors in Finance at NYU. He loves staying fit and getting outdoors to enjoy the Bay Area.

An expert in product /roadmap management, integrated marketing, multi-channel launch, he has deep experience in secure connected hardware - software - cloud IoT solutions for identity management, device connectivity, control, data mobility, etc -- and the integration of all. He has significant general management, M&A and P&L experience, including building and/or managing software-cloud engineering teams, plus managing multi-continent sales teams.
